Helping non-profits: KelpFest 2012
Published on 2012-03-31 10:45:25
In three weeks Laguna Beach will host the 2012 KelpFest, a yearly event to celebrate the return of the kelp forests to our beautiful coastal city.
This is a fun educational day where volunteers will tell you everything there is to know about kelp. If you want, you can even go paddle board to the close kelp forest patch off Main Beach or visit the tidepools with knowlegeable docents.
The event starts around 8am by a beach cleanup on Saturday April 21st. There will be activities and presentations all day long up until around 5pm. Â
Nancy Caruso from GetInspired Inc is the main force behind the Kelp Fest and also behind the restoration effort since 2002. She's the one to thank for the return of the sheepheads and other kelp dwellers and probably also for all the wonders we've been seing in our coves' waters recently.
In honor of the festival, I put together this short video. Feel free to pass the word around and come visit the 2012 KelpFest in Laguna Beach!
